Tree Nursery

MIRO set up a volunteer Nursery to supply eco-sourced trees for the Parangarahu Lakes revegetation. Initially established in Eastbourne, then on the grounds of GNS Science at Gracefield, in 2025 the Tree Nursery merged with Forest & Bird’s nursery in Wainuiomata.

Seed is sourced locally from East Harbour Regional Park. Up until 2022 the MIRO Nursery has been the sole supplier of trees for the revegetation with any surplus trees being donated to other local revegetation projects. 

Up to 3,000 plants are supplied to the Parangarahu Lakes and Baring Head each year. Groups of MIRO volunteers work at the nursery every Friday morning.
